About us

Bradgate Park is located on the outskirts of the picturesque regional city Orange in central west New South Wales. The region is well renowned for its amazing food and cool climate wines and now due to its horses and the commencement of the biannual 'Dressage with Altitude' event. Bradgate Park itself lies on the 300 acres of undulating country with amazing views over the area. Bradgate Park Performance Horse stud was established in 2001 after purchasing a selection of mares and after 10 years of careful breeding we have continued to improve and expand to where we are today.

Exceptional Breeding

The stud aims to produce a small number of high quality foals each year. We believe that producing a performance horse is not up to chance as the movement and temperament required of elite dressage horses is highly heritable. We carefully select the pedigree of both the sire and the dam. For this reason we use a selection of the best European stallions from imported frozen semen to produce our foals. Each year we have retained a selection of our best fillies to continue the improvement in our maternal bloodlines with some our foals now from fourth generation frozen semen breeding.

All of our young horses are managed with the utmost care regarding nutrition and handling to ensure we produce sound, respectful and calm animals that are well equipped to handle the demands of training. Formulated rations are used and growth rates monitored to minimize the risk of nutritional developmental orthopedic disease and other health problems. We handle our foals from birth right through to breaking in, performed on the property by the stud manager Patrick Cass, an excellent horseman with many years of experience. All our handling is performed in a calm manner without undue force to produce confident and trusting young horses.

We currently have a variety of young horses on the property ranging from foals and yearlings through to five year olds. Sire bloodlines include those of Don Primero, Sandro Hit, Regazzoni, Don Ramiro, Prestige, Londonderry, Don Frederico, Fidertanz, Falsterbo, De Niro, Brentano II, Grafenstolz, Wynton and Rotspon to name a few.  The 2010/2011 foaling season saw an exceptional crop of foals, with nine born from stallions including Scandic, Ampere, Olympic Ferro, Grafenstolz, Rotspon and De Niro. Two of which were successful attempts at embryo transfer to produce a pair of lovely Wynton fillies from a Grannus II mare.

Successful young horses

There are currently a number of Bradgate Park bred young horses successfully competing throughout Australia from Preliminary to FEI.  In 2008, Bradgate Park Rothefeldt, an exciting Rotspon x Olympic Ferro/Weltmeyer gelding was sold to be competed in Germany and is successfully competing at M level. Bradgate Park Jatzz, is a Jazz gelding, currently ridden and campaigned by David Mckinnon, who is based with Brett Parberry. This horse has big bold paces and presence to match. He is currently competing at Elementary level and achieving scores up to 71%. He is the current NSW Novice and Elementary Champion.  Jive Talking BP, a Jive Magic x Don Ramiro, gelding who is owned and ridden by Cornelia O’Mahoney has been climbing through the grades with success and is currently competing at PSG/Intermediate I and proving difficult to beat. Stunning & functional facilities

Bradgate Park is a purpose built property with stunning facilities and views to match. There is a large grass outdoor arena with views from the top of the hill overlooking Mount Canoblas and the township of Orange as well as a full sized, enclosed sand outdoor arena. There are safe, secure stabling facilities but the feature of the property is the amazing indoor arena. Fully enclosed and expanding over 66 x 26 metres with a world-class surface of mixed sand, shredded felt and wax, it is certainly a talking point. We decided that we should share this amazing arena giving Australian riders an opportunity to compete in world class facilities from preliminary right through to Grand Prix level competition with the commencement of the biannual Dressage with Altitude CDI.
