About us
Bradgate Park is located on the outskirts of the picturesque city of Orange in central west NSW. The stud was established in 2001 after purchasing a selection of foundation mares. From here we have continued to improve our bloodlines and expand to what we are today.
The stud aims to produce a small number of elite dressage horses each year. We believe that producing a performance horse is not up to chance and requires careful selection of pedigrees of both the sire and the dam. The talents required for elite dressage horses including movement and temperament are highly heritable. For this reason we use a selection of the best European stallions by importing frozen semen to produce our foals. Each year we retain some of our best fillies to continue the improvement of our maternal bloodlines. All of our young horses are managed with the utmost care regarding nutrition and handling to ensure we produce horses that are sound, respectful and calm animals, well equipped to handle the demands of training. Foals are handled from birth right through until breaking in. All handling and breaking in is performed on the property by our Stud Manager Patrick Cass, an excellent horseman with many years of experience. This is all performed in a calm manner without the use of undue force to produce confident young horses. Nutrition and growth rates are also carefully monitored to minimise the risk of any orthopaedic disease.
In 2008/2009 breeding season we began to experiment with embryo transfer to enable us to produce more foals from some of our best mares. We had some success and now have a beautiful filly by Brentano II out of our young mare Bradgate Park Diva di Piesca (Don Primero) from our fondly known recipient “Agnes”. We hope that by using embryo transfer we will be able to continue to breed from our mares and continue to campaign them. In 2010 we await the arrival of two more embryo transfer foals by Wynton out of a Grannus II mare. In 2008 we also sold our exciting young black gelding, Bradgate Park Rothenfeldt, by Rotspon out of our Olympic Ferro x Weltmeyer mare to the Burgess family. He is due to travel to Germany in June 2009 for Briana Burgess to train and compete under the tuition of Monica Theodorescu. A video was sent to Monica of the horse to compare his quality to the horses available in Europe and he received a huge tick of approval for his breeding, all paces and trainability.
Other young horses that we have out successfully competing around NSW include Bradgate Jatzz, a 4 year old Jazz gelding, ridden and campaigned by Brett Parberry who achieved 65.4% at Novice level on his first outing. Also a 5 year old Royal Diamond mare, Bradgate Park Replica, has been successfully competing at Novice level achieving scores over 70%. Jive Talkin BP (Jive Magic), owned and ridden by Cornelia O’Mahony, has also achieved scores in the high 60’s at Novice level.
For the 2009/2010 foaling season we have an exceptional crop of foals from stallions including Fidertanz, Don Primero, Lord Loxley, Don Frederico, De Niro, Brentano II and Prestige. So far for the 2010/2011 foaling season we are expecting foals from stallions including Wynton, Scandic, Ampere, Regazzoni, Grafenstolz and Rotspon.
